Escaping From Peculiar Places: Where Escape Rooms Are Appearing

The battleship Wisconsin has been reminding us that escape rooms can appear in unexpected places.

The former warship – now used as a tourist attraction in Norfolk, VA – has had an escape room featured on it for the past few years with a yearly scenario. Its latest scenario is based off of a real life event regarding a Russian spy appearing as an ambassador on the Wisconsin. 

“A group of Waterside District managers is tasked with saving the day as they travel back in time as part of an escape room on the ship,” says Virginian-Pilot Correspondent Cindy Butler Focke.

A battleship would be the perfect place for an escape room to appear! Think of the room taking up a portion of the ship, where guests would be tasked with navigating the ship’s staircase, chambers, and hatches to uncover clues in the mystery to escape. Not to mention, a haunted ship around Halloween would make the experience better!

Escape rooms are also appearing in places overseas. We found out a few weeks ago that the Queen’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace is featuring an escape room until October of this year. Also, Stranger Things fans in Seoul, South Korea were given the opportunity to escape from Hawkins, IN in a pop-up room based on the iconic Netflix series. 

It’s great to see escape rooms becoming one of the trending places to visit around the world. Overall, it’s great to see them appearing in places, unlike a mall or shopping center. It allows people to interact with historic landmarks and sites unlike before. Would you have thought that 40 years ago, you could be trying to solve a puzzle to escape from an old warship or castle?

Also, you have to think about what could be next. Imagine exploring the haunted Queen Mary, a former ocean liner that served as a troopship during WWII, that is now used as a hotel in California. It’s been featured on numerous paranormal television shows because guests have reported experiencing paranormal activity during their stay. Now that’s an escape room I would try in my lifetime. If not, Room 4 Escape will do!
